Save the date! Musculoskeletal care in SMA: from research to rehabilitation

SMA Europe is pleased to announce the 2nd International Clinical Care Symposium on Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), taking place on 4th and 5th March 2027 at the Grandior Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic.

Agenda:

SMA clinicians and experts in the field will be invited to share their experience and best clinical care models on managing the musculoskeletal care in people living with SMA.

The 2027 Care Symposium will place musculoskeletal and thoracic care at the centre of discussion, recognising them as deeply interconnected elements across the full SMA spectrum. Despite their close relationship, these aspects of care are still too often approached separately across Europe, creating inconsistencies in treatment pathways and uncertainty in clinical decision-making.

Key topics of the event:

●        Musculoskeletal system: scoliosis, contractures, bone health and fragility

●        Thoracic system: chest wall deformities and respiratory restriction

●        Systemic modifiers: nutrition, metabolism, growth, and treatment status

Main sessions will focus on musculo-skeletal system, clinical presentation, prevention and management of scoliosis, contractures and thorax deformities.

Additional sessions will cover the topics on important systemic factors such as nutrition, metabolism, growth, and treatment status, all of which play a critical role in shaping patient outcomes.

Workshops will focus on identifying the key gaps and priority areas across the countries and variabilities in clinical practice.
